When do kittens open their eyes after being born. About ten to 14 days after birth the kitten will slowly start to open her eyes. Kittens cannot see as well as adult cats until about ten weeks after birth. Kittens open their eyes about seven to ten days after birth. It will begin as a thin slit.
Newborn kittens can not move on their own for the first few days. All kittens eyes are blue and will remain so for several weeks. Most pet owners will wonder when kittens open their eyes. If kittens are born with blue eyes they might start changing color during their third week.
When their eyes do open they will not open all at once right away. They will continue to open further until somewhere between two and three weeks of age at which point they will be open completely. Its eyes will start to open and will be completely open at 9 to 14 days old. Kittens eyes are sealed shut when they are first born and do not open until after a week or slightly longer.
In fact they may not open their eyes until they are a year old or two. As for the ears they will start to adapt hearing in the first 5 to 8 days of age. However they will not open their eyes widely. Kittens will open their eyes during the second week but it doesn t mean that their vision is good.
Vision will be blurred at first. Kittens will usually will open their eyes after they are weaned but it could take up to 6 months for them to completely open their eyes. Slowly but surely the eyes will open completely and shed the film. As a kitten s pupils don t dilate and contract readily protect your kitten from bright lights.
At first the retina is poorly developed and vision is poor. During this week they should be kept of bright light. Basically kittens spend the first week or so of their lives deaf and blind. Their eyes will open partially though since they are still sensitive to light.
And the kitten will completely open their eyes after couple of weeks. Their eyes will open wider and continue to open when the reach the first two or three weeks of age. Their eyes open initially as slits then slowly open more fully. Kittens develop very quickly from about two weeks of age until their seventh week.
For the most part kitties don t open their eyes very early on in life. Short haired kittens will usually open their eyes faster than long haired cats. Kitten eyes completely open after the first couple weeks the kittens eyes will gradually become wider after the first week or so of her life.
